Industrialization is the process that a country goes through when it changes from an agricultural based society into a manufacturing one. Almost all counties that are still alive today have been through industrialization one way or another, without it we would all still be farmers hoping that our crops would grow that year.
America first started industrializing in the mid 1800's. A boom of new inventions arose at this time and soon enough large factories were made for mass production. Many of the farmers and ranchers living in rural areas moved to the cities to work in big factories. The working conditions were awful but the people went through it just to stay with America's modern ways. The transcontinental railroad is a great example of how America was affected by industrialization. Built in 1869, people could now get their crops, meat, or anything else they needed to be shipped, across the country in just a few weeks. People started to move to the west coast and shortly after, the population was changing from rural to urban. Everyone was starting to realize what this industrialization could do for this country.
Many of our presidents pushed for industrialization during this time. People just wanted more and more of it because it was so helpful to everyone and they didn't know any of the consequences because it was completely new to the world. If America never did industrialize this nation I have no idea where we would be today. Yes, people went through awful working conditions and long long hours to get us where we are today, but they must have thought that it was worth it because they all stuck through it until things got better. I believe that industrialization is a great thing to a certain point. Too much of it changes people and societies, like the kids today with their iPhones and iPads and sassy remarks to authority. Overall, this nation needed industrialization to service the way that it did.
